Frequently asked questions before a project
Direct answers about displays, low-current systems, BMS, KNX building automation, ETS programming and home cinema.
Displays & visual solutions
How do I choose the right pixel pitch?+
Start with minimum viewing distance, content and environment. Closer viewers need a finer pitch, followed by a review of budget, brightness and buildable dimensions.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor LED?+
Outdoor LED requires higher brightness, weather protection and suitable structure. Indoor LED prioritizes close-view detail, uniformity and interior integration.
Can any screen size be built?+
Most target dimensions can be approached, but final size follows module or cabinet increments. We show the requested and nearest buildable size before approval.
When should I choose LED versus an LCD video wall?+
LED is best for one seamless image, large formats and custom shapes. LCD video walls can suit multi-source monitoring where narrow panel bezels are acceptable.
Can the solution include content management?+
Yes. A CMS can schedule, update and monitor digital signage displays remotely within the project scope.
Low current systems
What is needed to quote a CCTV system?+
A site plan, coverage areas, required level of detail, recording duration, lighting conditions and any existing network or VMS platform.
Do network works include cable testing?+
The scope can include Fluke copper tests, OTDR fiber reports, labeling, port schedules and final drawings.
Can access control interface with fire alarm?+
An approved interface such as dry contact can release doors in an emergency, subject to the Cause & Effect matrix and fire consultant approval.
How is public address different from normal audio?+
Public address is designed for paging, zones, priorities and intelligible coverage, with background music or emergency messaging where required.
Do you provide as-built drawings?+
Yes, within an integrated implementation scope, covering installed points, routes, racks, addressing and test records.
Building management systems (BMS)
What does a building management system do?+
A BMS supervises and controls designated mechanical systems and approved electrical interfaces, consolidating equipment status, alarms, operating schedules and trend data.
Which systems can connect to a BMS?+
Typical interfaces include AHUs, FAHUs, FCUs, VAV boxes, chillers, pumps, meters and approved UPS, generator or KNX points, subject to equipment compatibility and scope.
What is the difference between BMS and KNX?+
BMS focuses on centralized building supervision, while KNX provides distributed room-level lighting, shading and HVAC control. Approved gateways can connect both layers.
Which protocols are used for BMS integration?+
Common protocols include BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU. Selection depends on the connected equipment, network design and approved points list.
What are DDC controllers and I/O schedules?+
DDC controllers process physical inputs and outputs and execute control sequences. An I/O schedule documents each DI, DO, AI and AO point, its function and associated controller.
Can an existing BMS be upgraded without replacing everything?+
This depends on platform condition, available integration protocols, controller compatibility and existing backups. A survey and documented points review define the practical scope.
What documents are handed over with a BMS?+
Depending on the contract, deliverables include points lists, I/O schedules, sequences of operation, HMI graphics, as-built drawings, test reports, backups, training and warranty.
KNX automation and ETS programming
What is KNX and where is it used?+
KNX is an open building-control standard for distributed lighting, shading, HVAC and sensor functions in homes, offices, hotels and other automation projects.
Does KNX need the internet for lighting and shade control?+
Essential local KNX functions normally operate over the local control network without internet access. Remote access and selected additional services may require connectivity.
What is ETS used for in a KNX project?+
ETS configures individual addresses, group addresses, device parameters, communication objects and scenes. The agreed handover should include the documented ETS project backup.
Can KNX integrate DALI lighting and HVAC systems?+
Yes. KNX-DALI gateways and approved thermostat, FCU or HVAC interfaces can be used after confirming compatibility and the required control functions.
Can KNX be integrated with a BMS?+
KNX/BACnet or KNX/Modbus gateways can exchange approved monitoring and control points while maintaining local room-level operation.
How is KNX different from app-based smart-home control?+
KNX is a distributed control standard operating locally over a dedicated bus, with devices, addresses and functions documented in ETS. An app may be added as an interface but is not the foundation of local operation.
Which operating scenarios can be programmed in KNX?+
Arrival, away, meeting, presentation, night and energy-saving scenes can be configured after lighting, shading and HVAC commands are documented in an approved scene matrix.
Where is KNX commonly applied?+
KNX is used in luxury residences, hotels, offices, meeting rooms and commercial buildings that require reliable, documented and expandable local control.
What documentation is delivered for a KNX project?+
The agreed package can include topology, device schedules, group addresses, actuator-channel mapping, scene matrices, ETS backups, testing records and user training.
Home cinema
How is cinema screen size selected?+
It depends on seating distance, aspect ratio, source resolution and sight lines. Bigger is not always better if it exceeds a comfortable viewing angle.
Should I choose a projector or a large display?+
Projection suits a very large cinematic image in a light-controlled room. Direct-view displays offer higher brightness and simpler use in multipurpose rooms.
What is the difference between acoustic treatment and isolation?+
Treatment improves sound inside the room; isolation reduces sound transfer to adjacent spaces. Dedicated cinemas often need both considered.
Is 5.1.2 enough?+
It can be excellent for a medium room and one main seating row when placed correctly. Larger rooms or multiple rows benefit from 7.1.4 or 7.2.4.
Does calibration cover picture and sound?+
The scope can include levels, delay, EQ and subwoofer optimization, plus color, brightness, contrast and HDR setup.
